Garlic Breadsticks
1 ½ cups very warm water
1 package or 2 ¼ tsp. active dry yeast
4 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
2 Tablespoons butter, melted
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 Tablespoon salt
Garlic Butter to brush on top:
1/2 stick butter (4 Tbsp.)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
Melt butter and stir in garlic powder and salt
Dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water, cover with plastic wrap and allow to sit for 10 minutes. The mixture will be frothy when it is ready.
In another large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and melted butter. Mix with dough hook for stand mixer for a couple minutes until fully combined, smooth, and elastic.
Spray baking sheet with oil or non-stick cooking spray.
Divide dough into 14 pieces and roll into strips and place on baking sheet. The breadsticks will double in size so be sure to leave enough room in between each one. You will probably want to use two baking sheets.
Spray plastic wrap with non-stick spray or oil and tightly cover your breadsticks. Place baking sheets in a warm place to rise. Allow to rise 40 minutes to 1 hour or until breadsticks double in size. I usually stretch mine out a little bit after they rise.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Bake for about 7 minutes and then brush with garlic butter mixture. Bake again for 7-8 minutes or until golden brown and brush with remaining garlic butter mixture.
